On March 18, 2006, my beautiful niece, Keryn Lee Amoros Caywood, daughter of Edgardo Amoros my brother and Barbara Caywood, died in a tragic car accident in Taunton, Massachusetts. My niece Keryn was just beginning to flourish as a young lady. She had a great sense of humor and had many great talents. She sang like an angel, she drew, she wrote beautiful poetry and even wrote a play, and she had a promising future ahead of her. She held down two jobs, was going to night school and was engaged to a nice young man. I was amazed at the scope of Keryn's friendships. Hundreds of people attended her funeral to pay their respects to her. In life, everywhere that Keryn went she made friends with people. Many said they knew her for a brief period of time, yet she somehow managed to steal their hearts. Keryn was an easy person to love.
Keryn had just turned age 20 on March 2, 2006. In October of 2003, Keryn, who had been raised in Otowanna, Minnesota asked to come visit with family on the east cost so that she might get to know her father and her family on her father's side. When I first met my niece two and a half years ago, I wanted to give her the world on a silver platter. I think it might have overwhelmed her, but I felt I had to make up for lost time. She loved every single bit of the pampering. I don't have children of my own and I tend to be very doting sometimes, but Keryn was a sponge and she took all the love that I gave her in and it was beautiful to behold how receptive she was. Keryn I knew came to love her Father, her Grandparents, her cousins, her aunts and uncles and her brothers Miguel, Ricky, Luis and Edgar. She had an especially close relationship with Miguel her brother, who has opened a website in Keryn's memory.
I found two messages below from Keryn in My e-mail archives and pasted them below, exactly as she wrote them. I no longer save email in archives, but these I kept. I responded to her emails immediately. Keryn telephoned me in 2005 several times to tell me she was very busy, and could hardly stop to call everyone, but she was happy and doing great in her studies and her jobs.
Keryn is now with God. I miss her so much, as do other members of our family, and we think about her every day. When I sang the song "The Prayer" with a friend at a concert several weeks ago, in my heart I dedicated it to Keryn, because I knew just how much she loved that song. Keryn I shall miss you all the rest of my days. You will forever be in my heart. ~Aunt
